Attorney Steven Roth moderated a panel at a presentation by the Family Business Alliance called “Bring Your Family to the Table.”

On Tuesday, April 16th, our Managing Partner, Steven Roth, moderated a panel at a presentation by the Family Business Alliance called “Bring Your Family to the Table.” The presentation focused on the many aspects of owning and operating family businesses.

The panel discussion was on the topic of “What Works/What Does Not Work in Running a Family Meeting” and touched on many of the Dos and Don’ts in running business meetings for family-owned operations.

Rushton Articles Featured in PBA Business Law Section Newsletter

A pair of articles prepared by Paul T. Rushton, the Chair of our Firm’s Business & Finance Department, were published in the most recent Pennsylvania Bar Association Business Law Section newsletter. The newsletter can be viewed here.

One of Paul’s articles announced the formation of the Closely-Held Business Committee of the Section on Business Law of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. As the Chair of such Committee, Paul explained in his article the intended purpose and activities of the Committee.

Paul’s article titled “Title Isn’t Everything: Corporate and Tax Issues for Real Estate Investors to Consider Prior to Purchasing an Investment Property” was also included in the Newsletter. Such article identifies corporate and tax issues that real estate investors should evaluate prior to purchasing an investment property in Pennsylvania.

Attorney Lee Piatt presented a lecture to the Board of Directors of Rural Health Corporation of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, March 26th, Lee Piatt, a partner in our Business and Finance Department, presented a lecture on “Serving Non-Profit Organizations as Outside Directors” to the Board of Directors of Rural Health Corporation of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Lee has been representing and serving on community non-profit boards in our area for more than 30 years.

2019 PBA Young Lawyers Division Mock Trial Competition

On Thursday, February 21st, T.J. Jensen and Robert Gawlas, associates in our Litigation Department, and Christyan Telech and Nick Marinelli, associates in our Corporate Department, volunteered to be jurors for the 2019 PBA Young Lawyers Division Mock Trial Competition, held at the Luzerne County Courthouse.

The Mock Trial Competition is held in different districts throughout the state, where high school teams compete in simulated trials and actual local judges preside over the “case.” Juror volunteers score the teams based on a number of criteria and the teams with the highest points advance to the Pennsylvania state finals held in Harrisburg on March 29th and 30th. The winner of the Pennsylvania competition advances to the National Championship in Athens, Georgia in May.

Rushton commissioned to serve on PA Corporation Bureau Advisory Committee

Paul Rushton, the Chair of the Firm’s Business & Finance Department, was recently commissioned by the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to serve as a member of the Corporation Bureau Advisory Committee.  The Pennsylvania Corporation Bureau serves as the official filing and recording agency for companies authorized to do business in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In that capacity, the Corporation Bureau assists in the business registration process and lists information about registered businesses on its website.  The Corporation Bureau Advisory Committee is comprised of individuals who are knowledgeable in matters covered by Pennsylvania’s business laws.  Paul’s contact information can be found here.

We are pleased to announce the addition of Anthony J. Jensen, Esquire to our Litigation Department. Attorney Jensen will focus his practice on Civil Litigation.

Attorney Jensen earned his J.D. at Penn State Law where he served as the Student Works Editor of the Journal of Law & International Affairs and received several awards for excellence in different areas of law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Scranton where he graduated summa cum laude and earned the Excellence in Management Award. Attorney Jensen is active in his community and was elected Auditor for South Abington Township.

Telech joins RJG Business and Finance Department

Christyan A. Telech

We are pleased to announce the addition of Christyan A. Telech, Esquire to our Business and Finance Department. Attorney Telech will focus his practice on representing and advising clients in connection with business and finance issues, commercial transactions and corporate law.

Attorney Telech graduated, cum laude, from the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. While at Villanova, Christyan was published as a staff writer for the Villanova Environmental Law Journal and also served as Symposium Editor. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree, with distinction, in Criminology.

Berger joins RJG Real Estate Department

Zach Berger Attorney Zach Berger’s practice generally focuses on representing purchasers and sellers of residential and commercial real estate, landlords and tenants in leasing transactions, and property owners in tax assessment appeals. Attorney Berger also has experience in environmental law related issues. Additionally, he represents various creditors in both commercial and residential foreclosure actions as well as in collection actions.

Prior to joining Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald, Attorney Berger was employed at a regional law firm where he was engaged in a variety of commercial transactions and litigation.

Attorney Berger earned his B.A. (summa cum laude) in History from the University of Pittsburgh, before attending the University of Minnesota Law School on a full scholarship. During law school, he served as the Executive Editor of the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology and was also the Student Director of the Phillips Neighborhood Medical-Legal Partnership Clinic. In his role at the Clinic, he partnered with health service students to serve the often disadvantaged clientele in a variety of matters such as landlord/tenant disputes, wills and estates issues, and insurance matters.

Attorney Berger is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Wilkes-Barre Law and Library Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
